Company Bio

AmazingBond changes what it means to be a senior needing care and what it means to be a caregiver to those seniors.  We deliver proven results every time, providing therapeutic art, breathing techniques, tai chi and chair yoga classes for seniors, leaving them feeling better.  Amazing Bond teaches self-care practices and gentle yoga that replenish the energy and vitality of caregivers, giving them the support they need, leaving them better able to care for themselves and their seniors.

Our therapeutic classes are unique because they are just that — therapeutic.  The results are nothing short of amazing — just like the company name — from seniors with Alzheimers who are not usually verbal talking up a storm in art class to seniors dealing with aches and pains finally able to relax and breathe and sleep better.

Varina, our CEO, was a serial volunteer and her inspiration for starting AmazingBond was her grandfather John who was diagnosed with Alzheimers. Her grandmother Ann was his caregiver, among others. She saw how Alzheimers affected her grandfather, grandmother and everyone around them. Varina has a strong commitment to the memory and elder care because it is a way that she honors her Grandfather and her Grandmother and she wants to provide the very best for someone else’s grandparents.

It was only natural that she partner with Allison Bond, co-founder and wellness director, who was also touched by her grandmother Gussie’s dementia and the tremendous stress that caregiving had on her mother.   When asked in the spring of 2019 to be a co-founder, the answer was a resounding “yes.”

Both Varina and Allison have very strong educations in breath and movement practices of all kinds and, together, have over 24 years of experience teaching therapeutic art, therapeutic yoga, tai chi and self-care practices that are rejuvenating and fun.  They have worked with thousands of people of all ages, up to 104 years young, and they provide excellence and that secret ingredient —connection.

Varina has been an artist for as long as she can remember. She studies art therapeutics for seniors and how art can positively affect the brain to help prevent and manage Alzheimer’s and dementia.

AmazingBond has partnered with the Alzheimers Foundation, YMCA and Silver Sneakers, Dementia Friendly Houston, Meals on Wheels, National Charity League and Enactus UH.  In 2020, when Covid-19 hit, AmazingBond’s programs were paused so they pivoted, creating online services for seniors and caregivers.

We created SeniorConnect, a project that has volunteers connect weekly with seniors who are isolated.  The University of Houston’s business group Enactus chose SeniorConnect as their fall semester project and the program is a success, leaving both seniors and volunteers fulfilled and giving them all rich conversations to look forward to each week.

AmazingBond believes in a world that works for everyone and that everyone is able to improve their quality of life at any age with breath, creativity, and connection.  We are happy to provide connection, nourishment, fun, and an amazing bond.

Testimonials

AmazingBond is just that - an amazing bond! My residents loved having Varina and Allison come once a week to our memory care community, bringing their tremendous gift of warmth and joy. The residents spent the afternoon in one of the most fun filled fitness classes, led by Allison, and then Varina would lead a therapeutic art class - in which my folks were proud to show off when finished! Can’t wait to work with AmazingBond again!

The Village at Sugar Land

Hello,
I am the senior adult director of the YMCA of Greater Houston. During the past three years I have had the opportunity to work with Allison Bond and Varina Rush coordinating programming for our senior adults.

Pre-COVID, members attended sessions on mindfulness and meditation on a variety of levels that Allison and Varina offered.

Their connection to members was “spot on” and were requested to return on a regular basis. Their organizational skills and knowledge of those they serve created the environment for program success.

Since COVID Allison and Varina have engaged some of my seniors in a phone program reaching isolated members who are in need of connection. These members look forward to the weekly calls and I hope that this connection platform will continue to grow.

It has been my great fortune to work with these two professionals learning skills to work with senior adults.

Thanks so much.
